Frequently Asked Questions
-
Check out our calendar, find an event you’re interested in, book a ticket and come along. For workshops and classes its important to read up on the class, and register via our booking links. We usually require registration for our free events too. Our music events often also have tickets available at the door.

Yep. We are a shoes off space. You will be asked to leave your shoes, bags and coats in the cloak room and storage cubbies on arrival. Think of it sort of like how you take your shoes off to go into a yoga studio. We do a lot of “being with the ground” at Extrasensory. We have plush, comfortable carpet that actually feels good to connect with. Many classes take place sitting on the floor. We know many folks feel weird entering a bathroom without shoes, so you will find a “slide bucket” full of many different sizes of slides that you can slip on, right by the toilet door.

We are right on the Tyler St tram stop of the 86 tram. There are also several bus lines running directly to the venue. It's also possible to park, but not directly out front (which is a clearway). Leave a little extra time to find a park, which is free and often untimed in the neighbouring side streets.

Everyone who buys a ticket will be asked about their accessibility needs, and we really do try to accommodate them. If you’re coming to an unticketed event, or an hirers event, you can send your questions to hello@extrasensory.com.au
We are particularly used to our community having sensory issues, and we do our best with requests around particular use of sound (limited use of background music music during classes), lighting (many classes operate with soft lighting) and smells (we use unscented candles, but do often have incense burning, so let us know if that’s a concern).
The downstairs main room is carpeted with soft, good quality carpet, and has mats, pillows and soft blankets available for resting and self-soothing. Most events will have a quiet room or somewhere with a lower sensory profile where you can get away.
We are on a busy road, so if traffic noise makes participation difficult for you, we aren’t the right space.
Our main space is wheelchair accessible via a portable ramp, using the front entrance on Plenty Rd. Unfortunately wheelchair access to the mezzanine, upstairs, kitchen and bathroom is not possible. The space is multi-purpose and is configured in different ways for different events. Wheelchair users are requested to let us know they’re coming so we can ensure the space is ready to receive them.
If you would benefit from an advance site visit to orient yourself to the space before sharing it with other participants, let us know and we can book that in.
Guide dogs and therapy dogs are welcome.
We are happy to offer free tickets for support workers, just let us know to expect them in the access question box on checkout.

There is rather limited 1 hour parking on Plenty Rd, and you need to be careful of the clearway hours. There is ample parking in the side streets west of Plenty Rd. Frier Avenue (first left North of Extrasensory, off Plenty Rd) has un-timed parking and usually plenty of space.
If you have access issues and can not walk far, we can arrange direct access through the back laneway, just let us know in advance so we can ensure there is adequate space for egress.

Everyone is welcome at Extrasensory. Different events attract different crowds, but our audiences do tend to be pretty diverse in gender, race, age and ability. The only people who are “not welcome” are those who discriminate against others. So if you’re uncomfortable around people who are different to you, most of our events won’t suit you.
That said, we do sometimes host events created by and for particular parts of the community (Queer, Sapphic, Trans or BIPOC focused events).
We are not perfect, and we don't expect you to be perfect either. We all make mistakes from time to time, but kind communication in tricky situations is a real focus at Extrasensory. Mutual respect and the practice of enthusiastic consent are core values.
We love our queer community, & celebrate sex workers & kinksters. Racism, sexism, homophobia, TERF or SWERF rhetoric, fascism & antisemitism, fat-phobia & age-ism will not be tolerated.
We really try to accommodate folks access needs, but the reality is that sometimes different folks have needs that are competing or contradictory, and we organisers are also finite humans with our own accessibility issues and limited capacities. We believe in making things accessible, but also ask for grace if there’s something we can’t manage.

The best way to reach us is via email at hello@extrasensory.com.au
-
Yes you can, space hire info is available in the about section. You can email us at hello@extrasensory.com.au if you have questions.
-
Yes we do, please read the instructions you can find in our “about” page. We receive many more proposals than we can accommodate, so please be patient with us, and do make sure that what you’re proposing fits with the vibe and mission of the space before writing to us.
-
Most bookings happen through our Humanitix booking page.
-
Sometimes hirers or co-presenters have their own booking systems separate to ours and we sometimes play host to events that aren’t strictly part of our programming. Please check with the folks hosting the event if you have questions.
There are also events we host for closed groups, or rehearsals and developments not open to the public. These will generally not be listed on our website either. The same conditions and set up will usually apply, but it’s always best to check with the organisers if you have questions.
-
Most of our classes require no experience. Though sometimes classes cater to mixed abilities or experience levels, and that should be stated in the event description. If you have questions about whether a class is right for you, always feel free to shoot us an email.

We try to. But sometimes things are lax. Once the class starts though, we will close the door. This usually means the black gate leading to the side laneway and entryway will be closed. There is a video door bell on this black gate. If you arrive late try ringing the bell. If there is someone available to let you in, they will.
